Wollongong company Hysata has been honored with the prestigious Energy Transition Changemaker award at COP28 in the United Arab Emirates. The award, presented by the COP28 Presidency, acknowledges Hysata's significant role in innovative and scalable decarbonization endeavors, alongside 38 other global companies.

Hysata's joint project involving Stanwell entails the commercial trial of a 5MW electrolyser unit at the Future Energy Innovation and Training Hub (FEITH) in Rockhampton, Queensland.

Paul Barrett, Hysata's CEO, joined a panel discussion at the Energy Transition Changemaker Showcase event. In accepting the award on behalf of the company, Barrett emphasizing the collaborative efforts involving Stanwell and the Australian Renewable Energy Agency (ARENA).

“It is humbling to accept an Energy Transition Changemaker award from the COP28 UAE Presidency on behalf of our team at Hysata – and project partners Stanwell and the Australian Renewable Energy Agency (ARENA)."

“A proud moment to represent Hysata, Australia and the Wollongong region on a world stage – and be recognised for the transformational value potential of Hysata’s electrolyser system efficiency resulting in intrinsically low system OPEX and CAPEX and an unprecedented ability to hyperscale manufacturing," Barrett said.

“Our technology is uniquely placed to accelerate deep decarbonisation of the hard to abate sectors – a mission that really motivates us at Hysata."

“As we approach 2030 emissions targets, time is our enemy. We need to raise ambition across public and private sector, and follow this ambition with execution to unlock green hydrogen’s full potential.”

This recognition comes after an intense competition, with over 1,000 applications worldwide vying for the Energy Transition Changemakers awards. Projects were evaluated based on their ability to overcome hurdles through groundbreaking solutions with the potential for replication and scalability.

The achievement cements Hysata's position as an industry leader in driving decarbonization efforts. The company's success highlights the significance of collaborative innovation in achieving global emission reduction goals by 2030.
