LINE Hydrogen, led by its Founder and Executive Chairman Brendan James, has achieved a significant milestone by obtaining development approval for the production, storage, and distribution of green hydrogen at commercial scale in Tasmania. This makes the LINE Hydrogen project in Tasmania the first to receive such approval, marking a significant achievement for both the company and the Australian hydrogen industry as a whole.

The proposal was reviewed and unanimously approved by the George Town Council on June 27, 2023, following the permit conditions approved by the Tasmanian Environmental Protection Agency earlier in the month. Construction is slated to commence in the coming weeks, with production expected to begin in late 2023 or early 2024.

The approved 7.6 MW green hydrogen production facility will be powered by a co-located solar farm operated by Climate Capital, which is currently under construction. Through electrolysis, the facility will have the capacity to produce up to 1,241,000 kg of green hydrogen per year. The hydrogen will be stored as a gas and made available for various applications, including vehicle refueling and energy production within Tasmania, serving as a clean alternative to imported diesel.

LINE Hydrogen's business model focuses on addressing both the supply and demand sides of the hydrogen economy. The company has been developing hydrogen technologies that can be deployed globally, and with the approval for facility construction, they can now deliver tangible solutions to decarbonize global supply chains.

LINE Hydrogen has already established key commercial arrangements to supply green hydrogen fuel and technologies to projects across various industries. These include providing hydrogen refueling stations in Tasmania through Bonney Energy and supplying green hydrogen and technology to support one of Australia's first carbon-neutral mines in Western Australia.

Brendan James emphasized that LINE Hydrogen is pioneering the growth and development of green hydrogen, with the world closely watching their progress. The George Town Project is the first in a series of green hydrogen production and activation projects planned by the company across Australia and internationally.

Replacing diesel with green hydrogen has a significant environmental impact, as every litre of diesel used emits approximately 2.68 kg of CO2. LINE Hydrogen's efforts will contribute to reducing emissions and advancing sustainability in heavy transport and industry.

Additionally, LINE Hydrogen has recently entered into a Head of Terms agreement with Net Zero Infrastructure PLC (NZI), a Special Purpose Acquisition Company (SPAC) listed on the London Stock Exchange (LSE), for a reverse takeover between the two companies. The listing aims to achieve a combined pre-raise valuation of £43 million and is expected to be completed by September 2023.
