In September 2019, the Minister for Energy and Environment, the Hon. Matt Kean MP, requested a Decarbonisation Innovation Study into the challenges and opportunities for meeting emissions targets and adapting to climate change, while generating economic development, prosperity and jobs growth in NSW.

As a direct result of the Study, the Office of the NSW Chief Scientist & Engineer (OCSE) is establishing a Decarbonisation Innovation Hub under the NSW Government Net Zero Industry and Innovation Program.

The Decarbonisation Innovation Hub will support researchers, industry and government stakeholders in critical sectors to collaborate, accelerate commercialisation and increase the uptake of new technologies in decarbonising NSW.

Aiming for those goals, the Decarbonisation Innovation Hub will:

  • establish partnerships and enhance engagement through informal and formal events and meetings,
  • connect industry contacts to research expertise,
  • assist with project plans and bids including with bringing together NSW consortia to pursue national and international funding opportunities, and
  • assist NSW industry and researchers to identify commercialisation pathways, cost-effective use cases and market opportunities for decarbonisation technologies and services.

NewH2 welcomes this important initiative for NSW and the hydrogen economy.
