The industry speaker for this October webinar series is Mr Phil Richardson, the General Manager of the New Energy Project of Stanwell Corporation who will provide updates and share learnings from the Central Queensland Green Hydrogen Project.

Phil has over 15 years’ experience developing strategy and executing commercial projects and economic policy reforms, with a focus on the energy sector. Phil is the project owner for Stanwell’s Central Queensland Hydrogen Project. Previously, he held roles in the Queensland Government, including General Manager renewable energy and energy pricing in the department of energy and Director Economic Policy in the Department of the Premier and Cabinet. In 2008, he spent a year working in the Pacific Islands with the United Nations Development Programme.

Overview:

Stanwell Corporation is working with a consortium of leading companies to develop a large-scale green hydrogen project in Central Queensland.

The CQ-H2 project will supply the export market and large domestic industrial customers. The project is aiming to commence export in 2027 and scale up to 3,000 MW of electrolysis capacity by the early 2030s.

The project is located in the Central Queensland Renewable Energy Zone, which has been designated by the Queensland Government as a priority area for renewable energy development.

The project will include a:

  • hydrogen production plant at Aldoga
  • hydrogen storage facility (to accommodate variable production capacity)
  • hydrogen gas pipeline to transport the gas from the hydrogen plant to liquefication and ammonia facilities
  • hydrogen liquefication plant and associated ship loading facilities

Supported by the Australian Renewable Energy Agency (ARENA) and the Japanese Ministry of Economy, Trade, and Industry (METI), a feasibility study has been completed, and the project consortium has plans to commence a front-end engineering design study in early 2023.
