IR Reform Briefing: Everything you need to know

On 2 December, the Fair Work Legislation Amendment (Secure Jobs, Better Pay) Bill was passed by Parliament, heralding in some of the most significant changes to employment laws in more than 20 years. So what has changed?

The reforms are wide-ranging and include:

• A significant overhaul of the enterprise bargaining system (including the expansion of multi-employer bargaining, greater arbitration powers for the FWC, and changes to the BOOT and procedural requirements)

• Limitations on fixed-term contracts

• A ban on pay secrecy clauses

• A new process for dealing with flexible work disputes

• Expanded sexual harassment and anti-discrimination protections.
